Music in Hospitals is a charity with the aim of improving the health and wellbeing of patients in hospitals, hospices, special schools, day care centres and care homes. The charity provides professional live music concerts performed by respected musicians with exceptional communication skills. Feedback from these concerts organised by the charity from those in care has been tremendously positive, supporting findings by research carried out at the University of Sussex. The research demonstrates that music assists the quality of life of patients, whilst reducing anxiety levels, pain and depression. As well as this, the concerts provide opportunities for patients to participate in meaningful discussions after the event. The Shanly Foundation is delighted to contribute to Music in Hospitals which will directly impact hospitals and hospices in the Buckinghamshire and Berkshire area.
