Marlow Opportunity Playgroup

We have made a £10,000 donation to Marlow Opportunity Playgroup, a charity that helps prepare children with special needs for school. Based in Wooburn Green, the charity provides services to over 30 children with a range of diagnoses, including autism, cerebral palsy, Down’s syndrome, as well as other genetic and neurological problems.
Marlow Opportunity Playgroup is the only organisation of its kind in Buckinghamshire, making its services crucial to the community. Its team of 19 trained and experienced staff and eight volunteers provides one-to-one support wherever necessary, ensuring all the children are able to participate in a range of stimulating activities, whatever their needs. Without this support the children would be unable to access the Early Years curriculum.
The charity is partially funded by the Buckinghamshire County Council, while the rest of its budget is made up of private donations. Since 2005, Shanly Foundation has donated £42,000 to Marlow Opportunity Group, which includes the most recent donation.
The charity enjoys a strong support network within the local community. Located within the Scout Hall, a light and airy space divided into several areas, it offers the perfect conditions for children to work with minimal distraction, which helps them develop news skills and thrive.
Tamra Booth, Trustee at Shanly Foundation, said: “We’re delighted to be supporting the Marlow Opportunity Group, a fantastic charity which helps improve the quality of life for children with special needs.”
Jane Gibbons, Manager of Marlow Opportunity Playgroup, said: “We are very grateful to the Shanly Foundation for its continued support and this generous donation. Our small charity needs to secure over £80,000 through donations and general fundraising each year, which can be challenging. This very generous contribution will make a real difference to the children we support.”
