Maidenhead Half Marathon off to a flying start

Purple Patch Running Club have received a donation of £8,000 from the Shanly Foundation for their upcoming Maidenhead Half Marathon.
To finish off the summer, the Purple Patch Running Club will be hosting the Maidenhead Half Marathon on Sunday 2nd September. The 8th annual half marathon, and favourite in the local events calendar, has been provided with £8,000 of funding. The flat and fast run will be held on closed roads around Maidenhead Town Centre and Cookham.
The donation will help to improve the event for the runners, as well as their families and friends supporting from the side-lines. Financial support from sponsors is hugely beneficial to the Maidenhead Half Marathon as it allows the route to be well designed with signs, support and water stations and for each runner to be rewarded with a high-quality medal and commemorative t-shirt.
Beginning and ending in Maidenhead Town Centre, spectators can watch the sport within the town’s hub, with parking and shops nearby. The race village will be based right next to the start/finish line, providing number collection, information points, toilets, bag drops and hot and cold drinks in addition to refreshments.
Richard Parr, Director of Development and Communications at Purple Patch Running Club says, “We’re so pleased that Maidenhead Half Marathon continues to be one of the highlights of the Berkshire running calendar, attracting ever-increasing numbers with runners of all ages from Berkshire and neighbouring counties. Support from the Shanly Foundation allows us to enhance the runner experience from good to exceptional, recognising the amazing fundraising and personal success stories of every runner.”
“With a brand-new souvenir medal and a revitalising goody bag for every runner, as well as brilliant prizes for the top men and women of every age category, the Shanly Foundation support helps us to offer a spectacular day.”
As recreational running continues to grow in popularity, Purple Patch Running Club aims to organise events throughout the year that allows participants to raise money by being personally sponsored. The running club does not collaborate with an official charity partner, giving participants more freedom when choosing a charity to support.
Tamra Booth, trustee of the Shanly Foundation, comments: “Purple Patch Running Club is a fantastic organisation that enables runners of all abilities be part of a community that aims to raise as much money as possible for their choice of charity.”
Events in the Purple Patch Running Club’s calendar include a series of 5K, 10K and half marathon races in the Berkshire and West London areas. The eleven events that occur throughout the year attract 10,000 to 15,000 runners, in addition to friends and families that are welcomed to the events to support and enjoy onsite entertainment and refreshments.
