We have donated £2,000 to Girlguiding Marlow District, a youth charity that empowers girls to develop new skills, gain confidence and make a positive difference to the community.
Girlguiding is comprised of four groups – Rainbows, Brownies, Guides, and Rangers – to suit different members, whose age varies between five and 18. All members are encouraged to develop new skills and build confidence through social activities and events, which include canoeing, climbing, cooking, playing games, crafting, camping, and more.
The Guide Centre, which is the local headquarters, had to be rebuilt from scratch following a fire in 2001. Shanly Foundation’s donation will enable the organisation to install new acoustic panels for better sound insulation, which will make a dramatic difference to the girls’ day-to-day activities at the new guide centre, whose bare walls were in desperate need of soundproofing.
Last year, Shanly Foundation donated a new oven to the Guide Centre. Baking is among the girls’ favourite activities, and the previous old gas oven required turning trays during cooking and was unreliable, making it difficult to bake, so the new oven was very much appreciated.
Tamra Booth, Trustee at Shanly Foundation, said: “We’re delighted to be supporting this organisation, which serves the community and helps people, as well as enabling girls to develop new skills and build confidence, essential for their wellbeing and success. We hope this donation will create better conditions for the charity’s members and volunteers, who play an important role in our community”.
Su Jones, volunteer at Girlguiding Marlow District, said: “We’re very grateful for the generous donation provided by Shanly Foundation, alongside donations from Marlow Town Council and the Prince Phillip Trust Fund, at a time when our budget is especially tight. We can’t wait to have the new acoustic tiles installed – they will make activities held at the guide centre a lot more enjoyable for our members”.
